Mar

"It was love at first sight when I saw the "Mar". I was so impressed by the crew's eagerness and willingness to do whatever was asked, amd their obvious ease with and enjoyment of the guests on board. The Captain was an excellent sailing teacher too! Sailing the "Mar" was one of the happiest experiences of my life... I'm continually impressed with the loving, meticulous maintenance lavished on the "Mar", as well as the enthusiasm and bright cheerfulness of the young crew. I truly believe having the "Mar" on the Halifax waterfront is a tremendous assett to the city and its tourism industry." -Andrea, Quechee, Vermont

The Mar was built in 1959 in Denmark by author Ernest K. Gann. The vessel was the subject of a documentary film produced by its next owner Charles Tobias of the Pusser’s Rum Company who used it to circumnavigate the world twice. In 1982 he sold the Mar to Gerard and Dorothy Murphy who used it to start their business, Murphy’s Cable Wharf.
